The best months for bird watching are May and June (for owls), June for owlets and September (for Waxwing and Spotted Nutcracker) BUT all species can be seen throughout our opening period. By July the owls have dispersed from their nest sites.
May and September also offer the chance to see a variety of bird species on migration.
April offers scenic snow settings Capercaillie, Black Grouse, Hazel Hen and Moose with limited accessibility over forest tracks.
January, February and March offer calling owls, lots of snow, sub zero temperatures and the potential for Northern Lights (dependent upon clear skies and solar activity).
July and August are hot and sunny and the main vacation period for Swedes.
In May we can visit a Black Grouse Lek.
The best months for Pike and Perch fishing are May/June and from August until October/November (weather dependent). July offers fishing in shallow warm water.
The fish are feeding heavily as the water warms up in Spring and then again prior to winter.
The best Salmon fishing months are August until mid September.
The best months for warm weather are July and August. We get long hours of sunshine reaching over 30 degrees centigrade.
The best month for the Northern Lights (when we offer accommodation) is September. They are most visible in winter, but are possible all year. During May we can see the Northern Lights when dark clear skies prevail.
In June and July it basically never gets dark.
You can see Moose throughout the year.
Black Grouse, Hazel Hen, Capercaillie, Crane and Raven plus much more are common and easily seen throughout our opening months.
To enhance your chances of finding owls it is important that you take our guided tour. They are a rare and secretive creature.
Often we have found nest sites prior to your arrival. Otherwise, we visit feeding areas. We can only confirm nesting locations around May 1st each year.
Wildlife by nature can be secretive, sparse, ever moving and hard to find. Observations or the perfect photo or filming conditions and opportunity are not certainties. Each year is different.
We improve your chances of seeing coveted species by feeding them near to where you stay with us.
YOU CAN WATCH THEM FROM THE CARAVAN.
