In Sweden the birds are now incubating their eggs.
Today, I had a rare encounter with a ground nesting female Capercaillie on her eggs.
While in the forest I found myself passing a nesting female Capercaillie.
She waited until the last second to break cover and fly away. Only, then did I realise she was there.
I was afforded the rare opportunity to photograph a clutch of Capercaillie eggs.
Here are the photos I took before retreating from the area to let the Capercaillie return to her nest.
I will keep the nest under observation.
